For over 20 years, Hanley Wood has selected the Big50, a group of design/build firms, contractors, and full-service construction companies who exemplify the best of their industry. Honorees share thoughtful leadership approaches, compelling marketing ideas, and stories about overcoming business and personal struggle. And unlike many ranked lists, each honoree is in the Big50 for life, their lessons available for peers now and in the future. But the transient lives of magazines and websites means that this collective wisdom was only promoted once a year in text, quickly relegated to recycling bins and deeply nested web pages.
To solve this problem, HW’s editorial team and I produced something new: Big50 Bites, a short-form podcast about the honorees, to be regularly released over the course of the year. Working with editor and host Erin Ansley, I helped shape the series’ premise, edited and mixed episodes, wrote supporting copy, and managed its presence on the website and SoundCloud. The series brought new exposure to the distinguished men and women in the Big50, racking up thousands of listens — and provided the team a new storytelling outlet.
